Two angst ridden composers, one desperately in love with the wife of a man he admired, the other riddleed with self doubt, fear and exhaustion, each holding a place in history as a composer of the most passionate and extraordinary music ever conceivd. Brahms' C minor piano quartet sat in a drawer for years as an unfinished work in C sharp minor. He described the work with the words "imagine a man who is just going to shoot himself, for there is nothing else to do". Modelled on Goethe's novel Werther, whose protagonist shoots himself over the anguish of being in love with a married woman whose husband he admires, the quartet was eventually finished and revised as the intensely beautiful piano Quartet in C minor Op 60. Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances is his final work, written in the hope of becoming a ballet, but to become one of Rachmaninoff's most revered orchestral works, rich with nostalgia for the Russia he had known and was to never see again. in this arrangement by English composer and arranger Iain Farrington, the instrumentation is pared down to 15 instruments, yet retains all the vigour and beauty of this brilliant final work by the composer.
Emerging composer Jack Lundie Jenkins currently studies at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. His rhythmically virtuosic and visually appealing  work for clarinet and percussion, Empty Houses, will be given its first professional performance by Paul Dean and Brent Miller.

Led by Andrew Haveron, violin

Ravel's exquisite Introduction and Allegro for Harp and ensemble, Britten's utterly compelling Phantasy Quartet for oboe and strings and Webern's beautiful and rare tonal exploration for string quartet, the Langsamer Satz.
