ENSEMBLE Q BRISBANE SERIES @ THE CON
Our usual Sunday series has been moved to midweek, all concerts at 7pm in the beautiful Conservatorium Theatre, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Grey St South Bank. Entrance up the main stairs (or lifts) from the river side.
CONCERT 1: Tuesday 4 MAY, 7pm
The story of Pelléas et Mélisande has inspired many wonderful works of music throughout history. None more so than the fabulous opera by Debussy and the incredible tone poem of Schoenberg. However, the incidental music by Faure and Sibelius on the legend, are representatives of the highest achievements and most successful works by both of these composers. Coupled with the invigorating work by Schreker, the beauty of Mozart and the amazing quartet of Szymanowski, this concert promises to be a wonderful start to a busy year for Ensemble Q.
Franz Schreker - Der Wind
Sibelius - Death of Mélisande, arr Walter
Mozart - Quintet for piano and winds, K452
Szymanowski - String Quartet no 2, Op 56
Faure - Pelléas et Mélisande, Op. 80, arr Walter
CONCERT 2: Thursday 8 JULY, 7pm
Ensemble Q brings Brisbane the program that will be touring across Australia for Musica Viva in 2021. Featuring the combination of wind quintet and cello, this exciting and engaging program is built around Paul Dean's unique and powerful concerto for cello and wind instruments. Described as "gritty, lyrical and compelling" by Musica Viva Artistic Director Paul Kildea, Brisbane music lovers are invited to be the first to witness the power of this dynamic combination in this sneak preview performance. This program will not be presented by Musica Viva in Brisbane.
Britten - Ciaccona for solo cello
Ligeti - Bagatelles
Barber - Summer Music
Beethoven - La ci darem
Debussy - Syrinx, for solo flute

CONCERT 3: Tuesday 21 SEPTEMBER, 7pm
Making a most welcome return to the Conservatorium Theatre stage is the astounding voice of Lotte Betts-Dean who wowed audiences in 2019 with a stunning performance of Berio's Folk Songs (now available on an Ensemble Q Live CD) joining the ensemble this time in the fabulous Ruckert Lieder by Mahler and the scandalously rarely heard songs by Holst for soprano and violin. Coupled with two of Ravel's greatest works, this program is designed for lovers of extraordinary music full of lyricism, romance and intrigue.
Mahler - Ruckert Lieder arr Walter
Ravel - Piano trio
Holst - Songs for voice and violin
Ravel -Tombeau de Couperin arr Dean
Featuring guest artist Lotte Betts-Dean, mezzo soprano
