"This year is about you, our audience. This year is about bringing music to the people, to unusual places, to give you experiences that you will never forget."
It is with the greatest pleasure that we present the 2025 Ensemble Q series. On the back of the incredible year that saw the ensemble gain national recognition and accolades from the full audiences on our Musica Viva national tour and now with the support of Arts Queensland and some very generous private donors, we are able to confidently walk into 2025 with dreams and plans realised.
We bring you a new and exciting metropolitan series on Monday nights at QPAC where we will thrill you with an array of incredible music like the super atmospheric Black Angels by George Crumb to the exquisite Grand Septet by Franz Berwald. We partner with the Queensland Art Song Festival to bring Queensland an important Australian Premiere, that of Jörg Widmann's extraordinary realisation of Schumann's Dichterliebe, with the baritone that all of Europe is talking about, Benjamin Appl.
Our Sunday series moves to the incredible GHD Auditorium at the Advanced Engineering building at The University of Queensland in St Lucia, where audience members can stroll across the lake and attend a gorgeous afternoon of the most loved chamber works paired with works by outstanding female composers.
The highly popular Whiskey Bar Series expands to 5 performances and is anticipated to sell out quickly so please don't miss out. And a two-part series has been added to Elm House, a gorgeous venue at the top of the rainforest-clad Mount Glorious, 50 minutes from Brisbane.
We are very excited to partner with The Australian Voices in 2025, after hearing their incredible sound and musicianship in one of their 2024 performances. This choir is
an absolute jewel in the crown of Australian music and needs to be heard by a wide audience, so we are working with them to present a special event, 'Requiem', featuring acclaimed Australian composer Paul Stanhope's stunningly atmospheric Requiem alongside a world premiere by John Rotar. The Australian Voices also appear in another new event 'Soundscapes & Stories - a One Day Festival' at Sandgate Town Hall. This day has been designed to give you, our audience, the most unique, fun, moving and immersive experience possible.
Our commitment to Australian music brings performances of works by Calvin Bowman, Sarah Hopkins, Wilfred Lehmann, Tristan Coelho, Joe Twist, the revelation of two young composers and the launch of our very first Composer in Residence program featuring the extraordinary composer Melody Eötvös.
Highlights of our education program include a partnership with ANAM that provides a prestigious placement program for one highly skilled young musician in our Sundays by the Lakes series, and we join with 4MBS FM to provide a side-by-side orchestra for their Gilbert and Sullivan Gala. And we're extremely excited to be launching Mini Q, a unique initiative that initially brings four very young superstar musicians together to form a string quartet that is intended for longevity and growth as a united, inspired and well informed ensemble. They will attend intensive workshops during their school holidays and later in the year will feature in Ensemble Q performances.
We hope our program inspires you and we look forward to meeting you at our concerts.
