Requiem - 7pm Tuesday 28 October 2025 at Sacred Heart, Rosalie

Proudly presented by the exciting collaboration of Ensemble Q and The Australian Voices, this heartfelt performance brings internationally acclaimed composer Paul Stanhope's 'Requiem' to Brisbane audiences for one night only.

Scored for chamber choir, two vocal soloists, harp, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and horn, Stanhope's Requiem is a uniquely Australian work and a stunningly beautiful and complex addition to the choral repertoire. Composed in 2020 and premiered at City Recital Hall in Sydney in March 2021, 'Requiem' is dedicated to the memory of the great Australian musician and music educator, Richard Gill.

Stanhope expertly weaves together the old and the new in this work, expanding the traditional Requiem form with texts by poets Neela Nath Das, Mary Elizabeth Frye, Emily Dickinson and Oodgeroo Noonuccal.

The program begins with the exquisite 'Lament' for cello and choir by celebrated composer Joe Twist, featuring cellist Trish Dean.
Ensemble Q is delighted to partner with The Australian Voices in this very special performance at Sacred Heart Church, Rosalie.

"Incredibly captivating"
Sounds like Sydney

"Stanhope’s Requiem is an engaging piece for our times. Rich traditional harmonies surprise with unexpected twists and turns; the voices combine with an unusual instrumental assemblage, the percussion driving the rhythm, woodwind emulating and contrasting with the voices and the harp adding a celestial touch."
